For many children, traditional soft play centres can feel overwhelming. Bright lights, loud noises and crowded spaces may lead to stress rather than enjoyment — especially for children with sensory sensitivities or anxiety.
Sensory-friendly play spaces offer a calmer and more supportive alternative that helps children feel comfortable, regulated and free to explore.
At A Sense of Fun, we believe every child deserves a play environment where they feel safe, included and understood.
What Is a Sensory-Friendly Environment?
A sensory-friendly play environment is designed to reduce overwhelm and support children’s emotional wellbeing.
This often includes:
softer lighting
calmer colour palettes
quieter play areas
structured sessions
controlled capacity
sensory play activities
cosy calming corners
These small changes can make a huge difference for both children and parents.
Why Sensory-Friendly Spaces Matter
Supports Emotional Regulation
Children are better able to regulate emotions when they aren’t overloaded with sensory input.
Encourages Confidence
Calm environments help children participate more freely and confidently at their own pace.
Inclusive for All Children
Sensory-friendly spaces aren’t only beneficial for neurodivergent children — many children thrive in calmer settings that reduce stress and overstimulation.
Helps Parents Relax Too
Parents often feel more comfortable in spaces where they know their child is supported and welcomed without judgment.
The Benefits of Sensory Play
Sensory activities help children:
explore textures
improve fine motor skills
develop focus
build curiosity
strengthen problem-solving abilities
Sensory play is also a wonderful tool for calming and grounding children.
A Calmer Kind of Play Space
A Sense of Fun is creating a safe and welcoming sensory play centre in Cashel focused on calm, inclusive and thoughtful play experiences for children from 3 months to 10 years.
Our mission is simple: create a space where children can feel calm, safe and free to play.
